Russia and China will continue to be "selectively" cooperative - but not allies. Geopolitically Russia and China have both the problem of geostrategic encirclement by the USA and its "partners". Economically they are perfectly complimentary - China has the goods and Russia has the material. But Russia wants desperately to be "Western" - while China has no need to be other then what it has been since ages - it will only adopt the suitable attractions. Internally both China and Russia - above every other need - seek security and "holding the realm together" . Both China and Russia are interested in being "partners" with the USA and the West - but not at any cost, and the best long term investment the "West" could make is to restrain its "Soft War" advocates: This would be in the enlightened self interest of a straining socio-economic situation in the USA and a demographic decline in Europe. There is a world beyond both USA and NATO Europe and that world will have an independent economic and geopolitical influence that will enhance China's and Russia's role as "multipolar" players
